Waste is selected at the Municipality of Karpos
The USAID project for recycling plastic provided 30 000 US Dollars for implementing the municipality programme for primary collection and selection of plastic and paper in the Municipality of Karpos.
The realization of the project started in the beginning of February, with some of the people who live in individual houses at the settlement Taftalidze 2. The money donated by USAID were used for providing communal equipment, bags in different colors for selecting the waste, as well as for implementing a public campaign for raising the awareness on recycling plastic and paper. In the future, on the basis of the experience from implementing this project, a national association of PET recyclers and an informative center on PET is going to be established.
As the project suggests, the inhabitants of Taftalidze 2 are going to collect paper in the blue bags and plastic in the yellow ones. The pilot-project is to last by the end of the year. The waste will be collected by “Komunalna Higiena”, and the recycling factory “Komuna” is interested in the selected paper. The company that will recycle the PET plastic is going to be selected via public call.
