SAVE THE CHILDREN UK

A Departure from Macedonia Announced

After several years’ active work in Macedonia, the British organization Save the Children UK announces the possible termination of its mission in Macedonia. The reason for that, as Mr. Bilsborough, the director of the Macedonian office said, is that Save the Children International, reduces its budget in the 30 countries in the world, including Macedonia. One of Save the Children UK last projects was the reconstruction of two schools in Kumanovo, and in the last months they provided the five centers for internally displaced people in the Macedonian crisis with blankets, children clothes and toys.

- We came in Macedonia in 1999, after the Kosovo crisis and since then we have worked as a regional preparation center. There are only few in Macedonia knowing that Save the Children International was established in 1918, after the First World War by the British citizen Angelica Gap, with the purpose of working exactly here, in Macedonia. We will continue working in Macedonia in future – we will come back as soon as we provide funds for the future projects. Until now we have assisted in Macedonia with over three million pounds. We have worked with several organizations, among which Save the Children Macedonia, who will continue their work here, said Mr. Bilsborough.
