MACEDONIAN UN MODEL 

Young people learn about world processes

For two years now, young people from Macedonia, through the “Macedonian UN Model” Association, become familiar with the functioning of world organization of peoples. The basic purpose of this specific organization is to introduce to the young people in our country the way UN and its structures operate.

We organize real simulation of the UN Bodies and Organs’ work – the Security Council, General Assembly and several commissions for human rights, environment and special political committee. We follow the procedures, we vote. Young people become familiar with the procedures, with the attitude of the country they represent. We make debates. We organize the simulations in clubs, established in high schools – there are 15 such clubs in Skopje, Kavadarci, Veles, Sveti Nikole, Gostivar, Prilep, Caska and other places – explained the president of this association, Jovan Madzovski. The training also includes seminars for instructors and preparation period of eight weeks. Young people participating at these simulations, first make a research on the problem that will be subject of the debate, collecting newspaper articles and information, and they sometimes refer to embassies in our country, which are always willing to meet their needs. This way they make contacts, acquire knowledge, become familiar with the research work, practice their command in English, improve their oratory skills for peaceful solution of conflicts, learn a lot about international relations, diplomacy, global problems and many other things.
