Public debate

Rights of the non-majority ethnic communities in Debar and Centar Zupa

“The condition with protection of rights of the non-majority ethnic communities in Debar and Centar Zupa” was the topic of the public debate held in Debar on 4 December. The debate was organized within the project “Living in a multi-ethnic environment – citizens with equal rights, opportunities and protection”, financed by the European Commission and Foundation Open Society Institute Macedonia (FOSIM). The debate was organized by FOSIM in cooperation with the Center for Sustainable Development of the community of Debar (former Support Center of NGO Debar). Among the other things it was discussed about the representation of non-majority ethnic communities in the institutions, application of bilingualism on a local level etc.

Participants at the debate were the ombudsman’s counselor in Kicevo, Kamer Imeri, chairman of the Council of municipality of Debar, Nizamedin Papraniku, representatives of the non-governmental sector: Ilir Iseni from “Tolerant Youth”, Ivanka Ivanovska from the Women’s Organization from Debar and Fehmi Skender from “Zupa turkleri” from Centar Zupa.
