Women NGO Health Education Capacity Strenghting
The Macedonian Center for International Cooperation (MCIC), in cooperation with Christian Aid from London, started the implementation of the Programme for Strengthening of Women NGOs Capacity in Health Education in the beginning of 2000.
The programme is financed by Phare and Tacis LIEN and has an implementation period of two years.
The objective of this programme is to contribute to institutional strengthening and sustainability of women's non-governmental organisations and promotion of gender concepts, development and health education, especially among women in rural and suburban areas.
The following eight women's NGOs are involved in the implementation of the programme: Association for Emancipation, Solidarity and Equality of Women (ESE), Organisation of Organisations of Women in Macedonia (OOWM), and Union of Organisations of Women in Macedonia (UOWM), all from Skopje, League of Albanian Women in Macedonia (LAWM) from Tetovo, Organisation of Women of Strumica, Organisation of Women of Shtip, Roma Organisation of Women in Macedonia "Daja" from Kumanovo, and "Prestige" from Bitola.
Within these organisations, a central and seven regional resource centres have been established, with a primary objective to create databases relevant for the work of the involved NGOs.
Women's NGOs, partners of this programme, jointly prepare an informative bulletin "Perspectives", in order to improve the communication among women's NGOs, governmental institutions and the general public. This bulletin is published bimonthly and is available both in printed and in electronic version. The publishing, the programme and the editing policy of the brochure is determined by the Publishing Council, which consists of representatives of the eight women's NGOs, participants in the programme and a representative of MCIC.
The creation of this web page and the web pages of the women's NGOs, partners in this programme, are also a part of the efforts for improvement of the communication.
In the beginning of November, a training cycle on Gender and Development has started within the programme. The training will be given by Neda Maleska-Sacmaroska from MCIC and Vesna Jovanova from ESE.
A Project Team, consisting of the employees of the resource centres, is responsible for the implementation of the programme.
All programme activities are also followed by the Steering Committee, consisting of representatives of the women's NGOs, representative of Christian Aid from London and representative of MCIC. The Steering Committee is responsible for approval of current and final reports and for suggestions for further directions of the implementation of the programme.
