Monitors at the regular and early elections

In the month of April, the civic association MOST attracted the public attention with its activities by participating in the Campaign for monitoring the early presidential elections 2004, which it implemented by itself and carried it out in for segments: motivating the citizens to check their data in the unique election list, recruitment of volunteers, monitoring the campaigns of the of the presidential candidates and their headquarters on the day of elections. For the early presidential elections, MOST engaged 19 regional offices on the territory of the whole country, they accredited 3320 monitors, who were placed at about 60% of the election posts, and the other locations were visited by 40 mobile teams. During the whole election period, they reported on the electors' response and after the voting ended, they reported on the percentage of votes of each candidate.

MOST was established in May 2002 by representatives from 20 non-governmental organizations. Its mission is to contribute to the development of a more democratic, more stable and more perspective Macedonia by involving the citizens in activities and projects that provide transparency, openness and accountability of the government, political and election bodies for the real needs of the citizens. So far, the association participated in the national monitoring of the Parliamentary elections in 2002 when it recruited and trained 3000 volunteers from different ethnic and national origin and placed its monitors at 53% of the election posts. Part of their activities are the publication of the brochure "Civic guide through the Macedonia Parliament", the conference "Strengthening the cooperation between the delegates and NGO in the Republic of Macedonia and the project "Mobile Parliament"

In order to accomplish its mission, this association has been realizing its activities within three programmes: Education and civic involvement in the democratic processes, Open institutions and Accountability and transparency of the processes and their doers. The programmes, as well as all the other activities have been implemented in order to raise the public awareness of the citizens for the need of advantages of their involvement in the decision-making processes as equal carriers of democracy.
