Humanitarian Legal Center

Let's continue the investigation on the massacre in Indonesia!

The Humanitarian Legal Center called the National Human Rights Committee of Indonesia to continue the research on the massacre that happened in Indonesia in 1965. The massacre was done by the General Suharto troops, killing about one million civilians and arresting and maltreating about 200000 of his political opponents, and many people were completely isolated from the social life.

This massacre and criminal against humanity is considered to be one of the biggest atrocities in the 20th century.

Until six months ago, the Indonesian government did not allow any investigation concerning this massacre. The research that was initiated by the National Human Rights Committee of Indonesia was stopped due to the lack of finances, and because of the constant threats and anonymous calls, and recently, about 500 members of the police and the parapolice demonstrated in front of the building where Committee offices are located.

So far, only two locations have been researched, and it is assumed that there are mass tombs, and the research has been made more difficult since the Suharto regime erased almost all evidence and removed the witnesses.
