From the Last Month’s Debate

Are You Getting “Connections”?

Last month’s question at our Forum refers to the usual, though incorrect working in every sphere of living – through “connections”, friends, incorrect, even corrupted. We tried to get opinions on how much is that phenomenon present in the civic sector. Here are the opinions of two people from the civic sector:

Jovan Markovski:
I think that the civic sector is the cleanest as far as incorrect working is concerned. I think that there is no corruption, or it appears in some exceptional cases. In general, the NGOs work honestly and fair, and they cannot get “connections” easily because they mainly work with foreign DONORS who are used to a different way of work than in our country.

Angelina Gelevska:
I really mind the attacks that appear more and more in the media, which are addressed to the NGOs. Some blame the NGOs that they do not work honestly and they are even corrupted. I would like to remind that the NGOs themselves were those who raised the question of corruption and many of them are involved in the fight against it. I think that such attacks are ordered by the Government in order for it to place the responsibility on someone else.
