“Metamorphosis” Foundation
Second International Conference “E – Society MK”
The Second International Conference “E – Society MK” took place at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Skopje between 15-17 November 2006. It was organized by the Metamorphosis Foundation and supported by the Open Society Institute and OSCE. About 350 participants from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Romania, The Czech Republic and Ireland took place at the conference. The focus of interest was the regional access to creating ICT-related policies. The Conference was a great opportunity for the different regional actors to discuss the future challenges, to share information, experience and knowledge, which brought a regional perspective of the local problems and was a chance to foresee the future problems. The SEE countries share similar historic and political situation and aspiration for becoming part of the EU. They all need to develop their information society as a tool for economic and social development. On the other hand, their levels of achievement differ, as well as their focuses in creating policies and their implementation. The regional cooperation and the exchange of successful accomplishments are not satisfactory. The present and the future requirements call for an increased networking of the ICT experts, both on political and on practical level, especially for the synchronization of the government communication system by applying same standards as a tool for reaching the European criteria.
