Celebration of the World Day of Human Rights

The Universal Declaration for Human Rights was adopted on 10 December 1948. It is based on the faith in the dignity, equality and worth of the human person, formulated as a common standard of achievement for all peoples and nation, and starts from the supposition that disregard and contempt for human rights result is barbarous acts.

 

According to the Declaration ”All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights” and “ Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration.” “Everyone has the right to a social and international order in which rights and freedoms under this Declaration can be fully exercised.” No activities by individuals, groups or states, which violate the rights and freedoms under this Declaration, can be justified with the provisions contained therein.

 

“Whereas a common understanding of these rights and freedoms is of the greatest importance for the full realization of this pledge”, and in light of the fact that many people in our country and worldwide are deprived of basic human rights, and considering that many people have not heard about this document and know very little of its contents and finally aware that human rights are used to disguise fights for some other goals and different ideals, we consider that it is necessary that we introduce ourselves better to these rights and freedoms in order to be able to exercise and protect them.

 

Therefore,

 

We call upon you to come to the Macedonia Square in Skopje (in front of the City Shopping Center) on 10 December 2003, at 12.00 hrs. to jointly mark the World Human Rights Day. Thus, we will demonstrate that we support the commitments contained in the Universal Declaration for Human Rights, that we are ready to exercise human rights and to respect the rights of the others, to stand up in their defense and fight for our and the rights of each person.
