Results of the coalition “All for just lawsuit”

Corruption is biggest in the border places

The coalition “All for just lawsuit” has presented the results of the project “Evaluation of the need for development of program for monitoring court procedures related to corruption in the Republic of Macedonia”, carried out in cooperation with “Nulta corruption – Transparency” and financially supported by the OSCE Mission in Macedonia.

The research covered the period 2005 – June 2007. According to the questionnaire carried out in courts of first instance in Macedonia, 14 of them have registered a total of 220 cases, out of which 158 in effect and 62 active. Most frequent are criminal acts for abuse of official duty and authorization (Article 353) and fraud (Article 247). The research showed that courts that are on the Macedonian borders with other countries have a bigger number of corruptive criminal acts – Kocani 63, Kriva Palanka 10, Delcevo 17, Struga 18, Strumica 33 etc. In the Court of First Instance in Tetovo there is not a single case on corruption in procedure. The most frequent perpetrators of these criminal acts are people who work at frontiers and come from the lines of police and customs control.

On the basis of the collected data, a brochure has been prepared that apart from the general picture of corruption in Macedonia, also contains analysis of the achieved results from the project, as well as conclusions and references related to the activities planned for the next year. The coalition “All for just lawsuit” in cooperation with “Nulta corruption – Transparency” will next year carry out a program on monitoring active court cases.
