The Parliament “opened” for the people with special needs
On 21st November, the Macedonian Parliament was opened for the people with special needs.
As the project’s name (“People with special needs can enter and freely move through the Parliament”) says, these people will be enabled to enter the Parliament and move about horizontally and from one floor to another with moving platforms and elevators. The President of the Parliament, Mr. Ljupco Jardanovski said that he was ashamed of the fact that the effort had not been realized before. The project for modern approach of people with special needs at the Parliament is realized on the initiative of Ljupco Jordanovski and the Interparliamentary Group for People with Special Needs. “With this small, but symbolic move, the Parliament hopes to send a message and serve as a positive example for similar behavior of everybody else for introducing modern standards”, said Jordanovski. He announced that the Inter-parliamentary Group and the members of the Parliament would continue contributing through appropriate laws for solving the problems of the people with special needs. With the help from the parliamentary services, the people with special needs attended the ceremony and visited all the premises at the Parliament. According to them, this project is very important and it should serve as an example for the other institutions, such as the cinemas, the theatres, the banks, the post offices. Bojana Zlatanova, one of the people with special needs was among the first to visit the Parliament. “We approach certain locations in the city, but not all. For example, in GTC (The City Mall), we can reach the second floor only, not any higher, since we cannot go up the stairs. , said Zlatanova, who added that the approach to banks and other institutions is partial, but luckily, certain efforts are being made to improve the approach.
