World Environmental Day: Protection of our global home

Fifth of June is the World’s Environmental Day, established by the UN and it is celebrated throughout the world. Traditionally, this day is also celebrated by the Macedonian ecologists as well as the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning.
It is a day when we should remind ourselves that our global home is becoming poorer and poorer – the forests, the plants and animal species, the drinking water and the living space disappear more and more. Deserts become larger, the atmosphere grows hotter. Our mission is to prevent that for the sake of the future generations.

Let us deal with the natural catastrophes

Another date established by the UN is the World’s Day of Fight against Drought and Floods – global problems that every year take away human lives and cause huge material damages. These two problems, identified as two of the biggest by the UN are not always caused by the nature itself – more often they are result of the human activity that leads to disruptions of the global climate and the ecological equilibrium on global level. Marking of this day serves to raise people’s awareness of the need to articulate their activities in a way that will not cause even more damage to nature as well as themselves.

Macedonian Journalists’ Association: Building trust among the media community in Macedonia

This date is celebrated in the world as a day against smoking, which is considered an addiction disease in many countries. On this day, different campaigns and actions are usually started, their goal being the reduction of this harmful habit, especially with the young population.
The World Anti-smoking Day is very often supported by the governments themselves and the big NGOs like Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, etc. Let it be an occasion for initiating such activities in our country, too, in which all the associations working in the field of environment, health, young, human rights, access to justice and all the others can be involved.
