Five years of MIM and www.culture.in.mk

Modernizing the culture and the journalism

On 12 July 2006, the civil society association “Junona” from Skopje celebrated their fifth anniversary and the five years of their web-site’s operation (www.culture.in.mk), which is the first and the only daily electronic newsletter offering information on cultural events in the Republic of Macedonia and the presentations of the Macedonian culture abroad. In these five years, www.culture.in.mk, published 15 100 articles and acted as a mediator for arranging interviews and concrete collaborations between artists and managers from the country and abroad.

One of the biggest acknowledgements for the work of this web-site came from abroad – it is a first-ranked page on Google with the key words “Culture” and “Macedonia”, and it is included in the Yahoo adventures: Expedition Macedonia. In the beginning, the web-site was financed by the Ministry of Culture and then, for a long time it operated thanks to the personal dedication, personal assets and the volunteer work of “Junona” members. The last few months, the site has been receiving financial help from the E-Macedonia Foundation.

On 27 June 2006, The Macedonian Institute for Media (MIM) celebrated its fifth anniversary. MIM organized a celebration attended by about 300 guests at the Parliament Club in Skopje. Most of the present were journalists, though a number of politicians, intellectuals, diplomats and MIM associates could be seen as well. The MIM director, Zaneta Trajkoska held the introductory speech, talking about the results achieved in this period, especially the programmes and the training courses for about 1 000 journalists from Macedonia, 100 of whom having been sent abroad to attend various training courses within the regional cooperation. The students who attended the MIM programmes were given certificates at the celebration. One of the above mentioned programmes is the one about the Roma journalists education.
