Quiet auction for the victims of human trafficking
On 20 September 2006, the NGO Open Gate / La Strada, organized a humanitarian auction of artistic works for the victims of human trafficking that are sheltered in their refuge.
“Do something special and make it possible for a lot of people to make the right choice and gain the dignity they deserve” – this were the words of the call on which the citizens answered and took part at the quiet auction organized at the multimedia centre Mala Stanica in Skopje.
Icons and paintings by various artists were offered at the auction: Miroslav Stojanovikj – Suki, Maja Stefanovska, Natasa Saracinova, Biljana Veljanovska, etc. The art galleries Skarabej and Artandhobby donated some works as well.
Jewelry and bags made by the girls – victims of human trafficking were also sold. According to the first estimations, about 18 000 denars were raised.
Open Gate / La Strada initiated the public informing on the problem regarding the victims of trafficking at noon when a City Bike Race between the Olympic Pool and The City Park started. The bike race was part of the international caravan for fight against human trafficking. The visitors could also watch the cultural programme organized in the park, the presentation of the awards for the best cyclists, among which were representative from the political and the public life in the country, volunteers and activists.
