Award for the best book design
On 24 April, within the Book Fair in Skopje, the Foundation Open Society Institute Macedonia awarded the newly established award for the best design of a printed book for 2003. The award went to the publisher "Euro-Balkan Press" for the book "The Balkans: short history" by the author Mark Mazover. The selection was done by an independent jury whose members were Prof. Zivko Popovski, Kalina Bunevska-Isakova and Bedi Ibrahimi. As the professor Popovski, president of the jury said, the book was selected of the thirty editions, received at the public announcement.
This award has a goal to encourage the publishers to pay more attention to the graphic solutions and the design of the printed editions. It will be awarded once a year for publications that will appear between the two fair manifestations.

...and a Seminar on museum management
From 19 to 22 April in Ohrid, the Foundation Open Society Institute Macedonia within its programme for culture and art, organized a seminar on "Museums in Macedonia: in search for modern approaches and new audience". The seminar was organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Macedonia, and was attended by representatives from 14 national museum institutions, which had the opportunity to hear lectures from three top experts in museum management from Russia and one expert from Great Britain.
The sessions at the seminar covered several topics: The museums' mission in the modern world, Challenges and changes in the market economy, Taking care of the visitors, Planning the future, Museum marketing and collection of assets, Public relations and representing the museums, etc.
